Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss: What Trials Found
Apple cider vinegar for weight loss has some small trial results and a lot of caveats. A 12-week trial and a 2025 pooled review found modest drops in weight and waist, with a high risk of bias. Mayo Clinic says ACV is not likely to cause weight loss. Habits still do the heavy lifting.

Does apple cider vinegar help with weight loss?
Maybe a little, in liquid form, for a few weeks. The evidence is weak, and Mayo Clinic says apple cider vinegar "isn't likely to cause weight loss" (Mayo Clinic, ACV for weight loss).
Experts have not found meaningful loss or lasting hunger control from it. Some trials did find small changes, so the picture is mixed.
What did the 12-week vinegar trial find?
Adults who drank vinegar daily for 12 weeks had lower weight, BMI, waist and triglycerides than the placebo group.
In that double-blind trial, obese Japanese adults drank a 500 mL beverage with 15 mL vinegar (750 mg acetic acid), 30 mL vinegar (1,500 mg acetic acid) or none (Kondo 2009, vinegar trial). Both vinegar groups did better than placebo.
The abstract gives no kilogram changes, and the vinegar came in a drink, not a gummy.
What does the 2025 pooled review say?
It found small, statistically significant drops in weight, BMI and waist, with serious caveats.
The review pooled 10 randomized trials of 5 to 30 mL a day for 4 to 12 weeks, mostly as liquid (Castagna 2025, ACV meta-analysis). Waist-to-hip ratio did not change. Results varied widely, 5 of the 10 trials were rated high risk of bias, and the authors saw signs of publication bias.
| Source | What it found | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|
| 12-week trial (Kondo 2009, vinegar trial) | Lower weight and waist than placebo | Liquid drink; kg not given |
| 2025 review (Castagna 2025, ACV meta-analysis) | Small drops in weight, BMI, waist | High bias, possible publication bias |

See packsHow does a gummy compare with the amounts in the trials?
A gummy holds far less. One Jellutide gummy has about 498 mg or more of vinegar by our label estimate, in total.
The trials used 5 to 30 mL of liquid a day, and 15 mL weighs around 15,000 mg. No one has tested a gummy-sized amount.

What should I do with this evidence?
Treat vinegar as an optional extra at best, and put your effort into habits.
CDC says gradual loss, about 1 to 2 pounds a week, is more likely to stay off, and it comes from eating, activity, sleep and stress care together (CDC, Steps for Losing Weight).
Vinegar is acidic. It can wear tooth enamel and irritate the throat (Mayo Clinic, ACV for weight loss). Keep taking prescribed medicine, including any GLP-1 medicine, exactly as directed. Our page on apple cider vinegar in Jellutide shows the label numbers.

FAQ01
Vinegar and weight questions
How much weight can you lose with apple cider vinegar in 12 weeks?
The trial we cite does not print the kilogram changes in its abstract, so we cannot give a number (Kondo 2009, vinegar trial). The pooled review found small average drops and flagged high bias (Castagna 2025, ACV meta-analysis). Treat any exact figure you see online with care.
Does apple cider vinegar curb hunger?
Not in any lasting way. Mayo Clinic says experts have not found long-term hunger control from vinegar (Mayo Clinic, ACV for weight loss).
Is it safe to drink apple cider vinegar for 12 weeks?
Mayo Clinic says studies suggest up to two tablespoons a day is okay for most people for up to 12 weeks, but it is acidic and may lower potassium with diuretics or insulin (Mayo Clinic, ACV for weight loss). Ask your doctor if you take medicine.
